Adult Groups

Communication Skills

October 14  & November 4, 2017
2 sessions
Saturdays 8:30 am – 12:00 pm
Fee: $30 per person *

This 2 session educational program is for individuals and couples of any description (adults only) who want to learn the basics of communication with emphasis on listening, understanding each other’s background, and respecting each other. Communication and problem solving skills will also be presented.

 

Mindful Movement

Beginning September 7, 2017 *
Thursdays (8 sessions) 5:00 – 6:30 pm

This eight week course provides a safe, ongoing group for women survivors of trauma to explore the relationship between motion and emotion, create personal movement expressions, communicate interpersonal experience, and discover the embodied nature of mindfulness.

Men’s Anger Management

October 4 – December 6, 2017
Wednesdays 6:30 – 8:30 pm
Fee: $30 per person *

This ten week course is designed for men who desire to understand and manage their anger more effectively. We look at how men and women feel & express anger differently. A major focus of the course is to discover the feelings that fuel anger and how to put them into words. Techniques are developed to express our anger in less harmful ways. 

 

Transforming Shame for Men

September 15 – December 1, 2017
Fridays 1:00 – 3:00 pm

This twelve week program is designed for men to address issues relating to shame, and to facilitate the development of shame resilience and a more authentic self.

Take Charge of Your Happiness!

October 12 – November 16, 2017

Long-term sustainable happiness takes deliberate effort and personal commitment.  This  6 session educational program takes a positive psychology approach to help individuals learn more about what they can do to increase their own happiness.

Women’s Anger Management

This 8 session psycho-educational group for women is intended to foster understanding of angry behaviour and to gain tools to better handle angry feelings and behaviour.

This group is a 3 session model that believes in the healing power of families and that parents have everything within them to support their children with tough emotions.  This type of training aims to help parents and caregivers feel better equipped to help their children understand and process emotion.

This program is an opportunity for parents with children of all ages to come together for a nature walk and/or fun activities in one of our local parks, to learn a little about our local area, and to connect with one another. Just drop in… sessions are free!

ON-GOING GROUPS

Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT)

This program is a form of therapy that focuses on the relationships and connections between our thoughts, feelings, body sensations, and behaviour.  It is an educational group that teaches skills to manage thoughts and can be very effective for persons with anxiety or depression.

Please note: There is no CBT Group at FRC during the summer months. This on-going group will start again on Thursday, September 21, 2017. If you are interested in attending this group at the Vernon Health Unit, it runs Wednesdays from 1:15 – 2:45 pm
